Pressing Enter to Move Between Fields in QuickBooks

In QuickBooks this option exists for people who can’t get used to the rule that the Tab key is the normal key for moving from field to field in all Windows software applications. When you press Enter instead of Tab in QuickBooks, the record you’re working on is saved, even though you haven’t finished filling out all the fields. If this QuickBooks option is selected, when you press the Enter key your cursor moves to the next field in the window you’re using. Then, to save your work, you must click the appropriate button (usually labeled Save or OK). To enable this option:

  1. Choose Edit | Preferences from the QuickBooks menu bar.
  2. Click the General icon on the left pane and then click the My Preferences tab.
  3. Click the Pressing Enter Moves Between Fields check box.
